Raechelle Paperny,
Ph.D., Registered Psychologist

A clinician, educator, and consultant, Dr. Raechelle draws from 25 years of experience working in the field of attachment and psychological development.

Her clinical approach is relational and holistic. Rather than working with a singular protocol or method, she works intuitively, selecting from a diverse toolbox of modalities to best meet the individual needs of her clients. Her therapeutic tools and training include EMDR, EFFT, CBT, interpersonal neurobiology, as well as somatic-based models that integrate mind-body connection (Trauma Sensitive Yoga Therapy, Polyvagal-informed approach, and meditation & mindfulness techniques).

Dr. Raechelle came to the profession with a dance background and the mind-body connection has been a unifying thread throughout her career. She received her BA in Psychology from Simon Fraser University, and M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Development & Counselling Psychology from The University of Calgary. Her thesis and doctoral research examined developmental outcomes of early childhood attachments, and attachment in adoptees.

This foundation provided her with two guiding principles:

  1. Connection to others is key to human survival and mental wellness

  2. Relational experience shapes our brains, our sense of “self” & “other”, and our patterns of emotional regulation

Dr. Raechelle served as adjunct professor at both The University of Calgary and Mount Royal University. She was also a long-time board member and past-president of Jewish Family Service Calgary.

For a decade Raechelle’s therapeutic practice was with Juno House, a Calgary group practice specializing in counseling young women and their families with anxiety-based issues. In her private practice, she offers counseling to individuals and families as well as virtual sessions online.

Dr. Raechelle creates a therapeutic atmosphere that emphasizes safety, acceptance, understanding, and authenticity as she accompanies her clients on their therapeutic paths to emotional resilience and wholeness. She has witnessed time and again the self-righting nature we all possess to re-wire our brains toward health. This capacity provides a foundation of hope that continues to inspire her work.
